How to obtain a HOKKAIDO RAIL
PASS
If you purchase a
pass outside Japan... Purchase an Exchange Order
before you come to Japan at any sales office or agent authorized by
Japan Railways in your home country, and exchange it for a Hokkaido
Rail Pass after your arrival in Japan at the
JR
Hokkaido Visitors Information Desk at JR
Sapporo Station West Exit or New Chitose Airport
Station
or at
JR Travel
Service Center (Twinkle Plaza) in Sapporo, Asahikawa,
Hakodate, Kushiro or Obihiro.

If you
purchase a pass in Japan You can also purchase a pass in
Japan (in Japanese yen only) at JR Travel Service Center
(Twinkle Plaza) Sapporo, Asahikawa,
Hakodate, Kushiro, Obihiro or JR
Hokkaido Visitors Information Desk at JR Sapporo
Station West Exit or New Chitose Airport Station or
the JR East Travel Service Center at Narita
Airport Station and Airport Terminal 2 Station.
*Except for
the office hours of the JR East Travel Service Center (11:30~19:00),
the service is provided at the counters of Narita Airport Station
and Airport Terminal 2 Station. |

The Hokkaido Rail Pass allows travelers from abroad to
enjoy unlimited rides on all JR Hokkaido lines. This pass is
available to passengers with a foreign passport that bears a
"temporary visitor" stamp from Japanese immigration in accordance
with the temporary visitor (15- or 90-day) status of Japanese
Immigration Law. This pass can only be used by persons who have
signed their names on it.

| Validity
- The Hokkaido Rail Pass is valid for all the train lines of
Hokkaido Railway Co. and the bus lines of JR Hokkaido
Bus
(excluding Sapporo - Asahikawa / Sapporo - Mombetsu /
Sapporo - Obihiro / Sapporo - Kiroro / Sapporo - Hiroo lines and
irregular lines).
- Ordinary Car: Ordinary Car reserved seats on Express and
Limited Express trains can be used.
* Surcharges are required
to ride First-class Cars (Green Cars) or Sleeping Cars (Limited
Express charge, berth charge, etc.).
- First-class Car (Green Car): These cars of Limited Express
trains can be used. Surcharges are required to ride Sleeping Cars
(Limited Express charge and berth charge).
Valid period You
must exchange your Exchange Order for a Hokkaido Rail Pass within 3
months from the date of issue. At that time, you must specify the
date that you want to start using the pass. It can be any date
within one month from the date the pass is received. Once the pass
has a starting date written on it, the date cannot be changed.
(If the passenger is traveling between stations (e.g., on a
night train) when the pass expires, the pass is valid for the day
following the expiration date.)
Refunds Rail passes whose starting date has
not arrived can be returned to the office of purchase for a refund,
within one year of the date of issue, minus a 10% service charge for
the pass cost converted to yen. There is no refund for passes whose
starting date has arrived. No refund on a pass can be made in the
event of train service delay, suspension or the like. A Hokkaido
Rail Pass cannot be reissued if lost or stolen. Keep it
safe.

| Reservation

You can reserve a Hokkaido Rail Pass before
you start your trip. If you reserve the pass, you won't
need to fill out a Hokkaido Rail Pass application form at the
time of purchase. You can pick up your reserved items at
the JR Hokkaido Visitors Information Desk in JR Sapporo
Station or New Chitose Airport Station. You can use this
service even if you've already made a contract with a travel
agent, etc. |
